Witherspoon will be transferred to permanent facility

Nearly a week after a jury found her guilty of first-degree murder, Misty Witherspoon is still being processed into the N.C. Department of Corrections.Witherspoon, who received a life sentence without parole, was taken to the Women’s Correctional Institution in Raleigh, where she is likely to remain for at least a couple of months, said Keith Acree, public information officer for the N.C. Department of Corrections.
Witherspoon was convicted last Monday of shooting her husband, Quinn, in the back of the head as he slept on the family’s couch in their Mooresville home.Quinn Witherspoon was an off-duty Concord Police Department officer.
Acree said the initial phase for Witherspoon — and most female inmates convicted of a felony — is to go through a diagnostic process.
“A case manager helps determine her educational level, her social history, her family and work experiences,” he said.
She will also undergo psychological testing and a complete medical evaluation, he said.
He said she could remain in this particular phase of processing for one to two months.
At that point, a determination will be made as to the facility she will be housed in during the early part of her incarceration, he said.
Likely, because of her status as a felon, she will remain at the Women’s Correctional Institution or be transferred to the Southern Correctional Institution in Montgomery County, he said. Her housing could be a single cell or being housed with a roommate. Acree said the rooms aren’t like the cells seen on television.
“They don’t have bars in the doors or anything,” he said.
Rooms range from 50 to 80 square feet. After processing, Witherspoon will be assigned to some kind of program, either educational or work, or both, he said.
In terms of visitation, every inmate at the Women’s Correctional Institution are allowed contact visits, he said.
As a result, Witherspoon’s three children can visit if they are accompanied by an adult.
“We encourage families to visit,” Acree said. “It’s an important part of the process.”A prison inmate in close security — the highest level — generally gets up around 6 a.m., heads for breakfast and then travels to their work or school site.
At noon, inmates are allowed 30 minutes for lunch and then return to either work or educational opportunities. The workday ends at around 3 p.m., and prisoners are allowed one hour on the prison yard. At 4, they return to their cells and then have dinner at 5 p.m.The evening hours are reserved for religious activities or specialized programming such as narcotics anonymous, anger management, etc.
At 8 p.m., prisoners return to the cellblock, with lights out at 11 p.m.
Acree said televisions are generally available in common areas, such as day rooms. Prisoners are allowed to have a personal radio, but it has to have ear plugs.Prisoners can receive newspapers and mail and send mail. They are also allowed to make collect calls but cannot receive calls.
This is expected to be Witherspoon’s life for a number of years, unless her verdict is overturned at any point.
Following her conviction last Monday, her attorney, Andrew Jennings, filed a notice of his intention to appeal.
Once appeal briefs are filed, the case will be sent to the N.C. Court of Appeals, and that process is likely to take at least a year.

I think we all know what the doctors will find when they start examining Misty.......no heart,....and a shell of a woman capable of murder. Murder no less of her childrens father. I don't know what she needed that made her steal from her church, family, and friends nor do I know what was worth her husbands life and her childrens future but I do know that she deserves to be where she is. She killed Quinn in cold blood despite how that would effect his children. If she had any feeling for them, she would stop them from traveling to prison to see her so they could get on with their life and try to salvage what little happiness they can have. Can you imagine when their teachers ask them where they spent their Christmas and they have to answer prison to see my mommy who killed my daddy. Or when they ask what their parents do.......Oh Mommy is in prison for life and my daddy.......mommy shot him. It's so sad to think of them enduring jeers and jokes from the kids in school for all the years ahead and what about when they are grown and have to tell friends what happened. No child is strong enough to handle that. You made the choice Misty to put them in this impossible position, now do what's right. Give them a chance to have a life. I pray the Witherspoons will finally see the truth one day and know what you are and maybe then will see what's best for the kids. I hope you don't get an appeal. You don't deserve to be outside of the cage you are now in. It would have been so much easier on the kids if you had never made bail when you were first arrested. Then they wouldn't have such a tough time now. You took their dad's life, now give them their own.

Unfortunately children are labeled by society according to their family. The previous poster is correct about the impact this will have on them. People in this town will never forget what Misty did. I just hope that the children have the best future possible. They deserve a loving family with a mother and a father, not the hand they have been dealt. I tend to think they would be better off somewhere other than with the people Quinn thought was his family. They have proved to be more like a cult than anything else. You know, even Charles Manson had supporters.

Just when we thought that maybe Quinn's kids had a chance....we see their Dad and their murdering Mom splashed across the pages of the National Enquirer. Now the word is that Sabrina is going to be on the Geraldo Rivera show. Is it worth that big check to subject the children to more publicity? How low can you go? Talk about dirty laundry in public. Doesn't it make you wonder just which family member is out shopping their dirty little story to the press. Just who is that money going too? The citizens are paying Misty's attorney againsst our will and here they are making money on Quinn's death. The church and it's members have lost so much not only money but piece of mind as well. Are they planning on giving the money that is made on this story to the church to pay them back for what was stollen from them whether it be all done by Misty or partially by someone else in the Witherspoon family? You know if not for the kids, then I would think you wouldn't do this due to the mess you may be starting again. Usually these shows do a story for both sides. You going to be able to stand the heat when Rivera starts getting the story from the church people and Quinn's friends? You might need to worry about what else might come up. My God Bob and Frances, think of the children. Don't make their life any more difficult than it already is going to be. You need to rein Sabrina in before she ruins their lives for good. Shame on all of you. Making a profit off of Quinn's murder is inexcusable and it just may come back to bite you in the behind. If you do this, you don't deserve the children. You will be the worse excuse for grandparents ever. If the things you already have done isn't enough, I think this will be sure to make you burn in hell. Selling out your grandkids is the worse thing ever. You ask people to think of the kids and protect them but here their very grandparents are selling them out for a few bucks. You don't have to face the kids at school like Katherine. She can't threaten people like you have Frances to make them stop talking about her mother. Anyone would make better parents to these children and I hope the state will step in and see all thats going on. I know of several people who have talked about calling social service and I think when they read this, it may happen sooner than later. Again, shame on you....you abandoned your son and now you are destroying his children. How can you sleep at night?

I'm so glad that all of you are so smart and know every fact and every detail of this case and this family. It's easy to judge other people when you don't have to face what they face or know what they know. Basing your opinions on half-truths and hearsay and portraying it as fact is elementary and flawed. Why don't you keep your opinions to yourself? No one asked you to agree or disagree with Quinn's family. They have the right to believe what they want to believe and love whom they wish to love with or without anyone else's approval. Their support of Misty is very Christ-like. If you disagree, then you might want to study the New Testament more. Jesus has some interesting things to say about how we should treat each other, even when some of us are very unlovely. Your judgment of other people is just as bad as anything you claim that Quinn's family has done. To wish for someone to burn in Hell is shameful. I am as close to the immediate family as anyone can be without being in it, and I can tell you that no one loves and misses Quinn more than Bob and Frances. If you think otherwise, then you don't know them. I have known Bob, Frances, Sabrina, Drey, and Quinn since 1970 and Misty since 1986. Have you? Did you see this family interact on a daily basis or are you basing your opinions on what someone else told you or what the media said? The family's love of Quinn and support of Misty are not mutually exclusive. It is possible to do both. There did not have to be a choice unless there was clear-cut evidence of premeditation and intent. You may think there was evidence of that, but reasonable minds can disagree, especially when I'm sure Bob and Frances know alot more of the details than any of you. There are many, many things involved in this case that only a select few know about. Furthermore, I doubt that there was any remuneration (that means "payment" for those of you who are a little more educationally-challenged) paid to Sabrina for her appearance on Geraldo. The National Enquirer article was done without any knowledge of Quinn's family and was not very complimentary. To think that they had anything to do with that simply shows your ignorance. By the way, I have seen Bob and Frances cradle those children at night. I have seen them care for these children, nurture and love these children, and furnish their needs. I have seen Frances filling out school forms for all of them and cooking and cleaning for them. I have seen Bob take them out numerous times to do fun things and work late hours to provide financially. They have provided a loving home for these children. Why don't you keep your mouths shut and leave this family alone? Who are any of you to judge? I truly never thought anything like this could happen to people I love, and I sincerely hope that none of you ever have to deal with a similar situation. I have seen a side of people that is cold, judgmental, vicious, and scary. I hope none of you are ever on the other side of your venomous vitriol (that's kinda like "harsh criticism" for those of you who are a little more educationally-challenged).

YOU PEOPLE ARE FREAKS! If the family wanted to be left alone then why did Sabrina go on Fox News last night with Geraldo and make a fool out of herself. Do you not think parents are discussing this with their children right now. It's like Geraldo said "Good Luck, but I don't think that's going to help". 12 of Misty's peers found her guilty based on facts. Mooresville police you should take note of the slander that is being used against your department. Go away Sabrina. Nobody wants to hear how justice wasn't served in this case. Oh yes and the statement was made by Sabrina on NATIONAL TV that the ENTIRE family was behind Misty. YEH RIGHT... I didn't realize Drey was so FOR Misty.

You need to learn to read. I never ever wished anyone to burn in hell. In fact, I would hate to see anyone burn in hell, even you and even Misty but I'm not so sure that won't happen unless she takes ownership of her crime and truly repents for it. I'm fairly sure that's the first step to getting forgiveness. At least that's what it says in my bible. Do you think it was right for her to steal money from the church? Do you not think she should be punished for this? And what about her killing Quinn? Have you read the court transcripts? I have. Anyone who thinks she is innocent is a total idiot. Anyone trying to get her out of jail is an even bigger idiot and a total fool. What happens next time she needs money? She going to kill someone else to get it? She is a criminal, a thief, and a liar. She killed a church. She killed her husband. Is it okay if she "accidentally" kills one of the kids next? You idiots just keep on and on with this. You believe everything that Frances, Bobby, and Sabrina tell you. Talk about the blind following the blind. Just get a copy of the trial and you read it. See if you don't change your opinion. I've know Quinn since he was a kid and he was a good man. He wouldn't let someone get by with murder. And what was that crap about Sabrina saying she was being pushed by Quinn to get Misty out of jail? Does she not know that Quinn is dead? Misty murdered him. If she has so much faith why don't she just stay at home and pray instead of making a total idiot of herself all over national television? Just leave it in God's hands. If he wants Misty out of prison, then it will happen. With Sabrina's crazy talk and the black makeup she had under her eyes she looked terrible. I can imagine what people think of Mooresville, NC after seeing her on television. I think if she keeps up this fight to get Misty out of prison, then maybe the people of Mooresville need to fight to keep her in. Again, she is a thief and a murderer and should not be around other people. In the prison she is under "Close" security which means she has an armed guard watching her at all times. If you don't believe that, look it up. It can be found when you look up her rap sheet. It also says she is a murderer. She's just a number now locked away where she can't hurt anyone else and that's exactly where she needs to be. As for Frances and Bobby they need to do what's right for the children. If they don't want to and that's why they are trying so hard to get Misty out of jail, then give someone else a chance. I would be glad to raise Quinn's kids as my own as I'm sure a lot of others would do. We wouldn't cut down their mother but we wouldn't give them false hope that she was coming home either. We would raise them to remember their father and family. As I said I have know Quinn most of his life and I would do anything for him. I would have helped him out financially if I had only known he needed it. He didn't have to be killed to get Misty out of trouble. We would have helped if we had only know. I would have done anything to keep him alive and in his childrens lives. I don't care if the Witherspoons all love Misty. Maybe that's how it should be but it's time to stop the craziness and let the children build a life. I have worried so much about Katherine starting school and what the kids have been saying to her and I know having her aunt on TV saying her dead father is pushing her to get Misty out of jail is not helping at all. Kids can be cruel. It just breaks my heart for all three kids. Please, Please Witherspoons, do what's right for the kids. Get them professional help to see them through this and if it's too much for you to raise them, then let someone who can do it.

Is the Witherspoon's so hard up for money that they would get paid to go on national television to exploit those children... once again.

You want everyone else to be sensitive to the children, and you all pull this crap!!

The citizens of Mooresville are absolutely embarassed by your family.

If you want any type of redemption, stay off the televison and stay out of the media. You are only making those childrens lives harder.

GO AWAY!!!

Where can this Geraldo video be seen? When was it on?

Sabrina was on Geraldo At Large. It was on Fox News. I'm not sure where you could see it now but you could try with the local Fox channel and if that doesn't work, I would e-mail Fox News. It was also in the National Enquirer.
